A MASKED BALL

Love was willing to partner him,
As were Laughter, Beauty and Youth,
But he the fool scarcely glanced at them
And danced all evening with Truth.

How pious he looked as he led her around,
How smug as he asked her to waltz;
And how shattered at dawn when she took off her mask
And revealed she was ugly, and false.
